Based on the best selling novel and Crazy Rich trilogy by Kevin Kwan -
Rachel Chu is happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. She's also surprised to learn that Nick's family is extremely wealthy and he's considered one of the country's most eligible bachelors.
"Sounds so boring with all Asian tho? Like, where's any variety at all" - One Facebook User
This movie might not be for everyone but the movie has been really popular in different countries. With the movies of ‘To all the boys I’ve loved before’ and ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ having asian lead roles I am super proud to see that cultural diversity in the movie industry is changing for the better.
This sets a major movement in Hollywood as this is movie is one of the few to have a large majority of asian casting following the “The Joy Luck Club" which was 25 YEARS AGO. So in regards to the facebook comment this is the Asian representation that us Asians need so I'm so sorry if there isn't 'variety' for you but for us Asians this encourages us that we can also be in the media and be casts in big Hollywood movies. We can have idols we look up to and who look like us for once instead of seeing predominantly Causasians being the leads to movies and asians just being the side characters.
Where do I even start... Crazy Rich Asians was just wow! I just watched Crazy Rich Asians at the cinema I laughed, smiled and I’m admitting I cried two times. The film has inspired asians who want to become actors by showing them it is possible to have a lead role and be an asian. I have to say I really enjoyed the movie and the quality of it, the scenery and shots from the movie was very pleasing and creative. I definitely am going to read the books when I get the chance to.
The wedding scene was gorgeous and I cried twice.
Once in the scene with Rachel and Eleanor playing mahjong, to be specific when she said Nick would get the life he wants because a poor, raised by a single mother, low class immigrant nobody made it possible to give Nick a better future. She knew that Nick was very attached to his family and it would break him if he left so that’s when Rachel declined his proposal and let Nick choose his family. Thankfully Eleanor came to her senses and gave the couple her blessing with her ring.
